Japanese Events in Copenhagen
Copenhagen offers a rich variety of Japanese events throughout the year, ranging from traditional festivals to modern pop culture and design. Japan In CPH gives you a complete overview of Japanese events in the city – whether you are into anime and cosplay, classical culture, craftsmanship, or seasonal traditions.
Every year during the winter holidays, you can experience J-Popcon – Denmark’s largest festival for Japanese pop culture. The festival takes place at DGI Byen and Øksnehallen and brings together fans of anime, manga, cosplay, and gaming for idol shows, cosplay competitions, talks, workshops, as well as a large artist alley and dealer area.
Spring brings the Copenhagen Sakura Festival in Langelinie Park, where the blooming cherry trees are celebrated with hanami – the Japanese tradition of gathering under flowering sakura. The festival is typically held in April and features traditional performances, martial arts, music, workshops, and Japanese food in beautiful surroundings by the waterfront.
Beyond the festival, you can also enjoy hanami in several locations around Copenhagen, where cherry trees bloom in parks, along pathways, and in urban spaces – we share a dedicated post with the best hanami spots in the city as the season approaches.
Each June, Tokai University European Center hosts its annual Japan Culture Day in Vedbæk. Visitors can experience a wide range of Japanese culture – from tea ceremony and martial arts to workshops, crafts, and Japanese food. With activities for both children and adults, it is a relaxed and welcoming introduction to Japanese traditions.
Later in the year, often in late summer or early autumn, the Shokunin Japanese Design Festival takes place. The festival focuses on Japanese design and craftsmanship and celebrates the concept of shokunin – dedication to skill and quality. You can experience ceramics, textiles, architecture, talks, and exhibitions featuring both Japanese and Danish designers and artisans.
In addition to the major festivals, you will also find smaller ongoing events such as film screenings, concerts, talks, tea ceremonies, workshops, and seasonal happenings centered around Japanese culture. Our event calendar brings together both established festivals and niche events in one place, making it easy to plan your experiences.
Japan In CPH is your guide to Japanese events in Copenhagen – from hanami under the cherry trees to intense convention days filled with pop culture, creativity, and community.
