Dark Gallery CPH presents a haunting photography exhibition by Sara Bensaltana, exploring Japan through abandoned landscapes, forgotten interiors, shrines, and ruins captured on distressed analogue film. Inspired by the Japanese concepts of kamikakushi being “spirited away” and omokage the “trace, or flickering image of someone no longer present”, the works reflect on what endures after disappearance. Rather than survival of an original form, the photos point toward a haunting transformation, where memory, decay, and presence merge.
